Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF)
Animal Kingdom Foundation or AKF was founded by Charles Leslie Wartendburg in 2002. AKF’s goal is to improve the living conditions and overall welfare of animals in the Philippines. They aim to eradicate any cruel maltreatment and trading of dog’s for the means of consumption. AKF offers services such as investigation, rescue, and prosecution of the dog meat traders. Other than that, they care and rehabilitate rescued animals in their rescue center as well.
Philippine Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA)
The mission of PSPCA is to see that the laws related to animal cruelty or the protection of animals in the Philippines are enforced, to perform all things to alleviate the suffering of animals and promote their welfare, and to educate the public by giving lectures on “Responsible Pet Ownership” (Philippine Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, n.d.) .
Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)
PAWS was the first organization to successfully lobby for legislation against cruelty in the country with the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. Now, 14 years later, PAWS is spearheading changes to its law aimed at increasing penalties and prison sentences for animal offenders. PAWS is committed to ending this cycle of abuse and massacre. They focus on improving humane education in schools and communities, and actively advocating for laws or legislatures to end the dog meat trade. As a result of their efforts, the Philippine government has begun to become more involved in animal welfare and tighten regulations on the dog meat trade (SPCAI staff, 2014).
